Premier League transfer market sees Alexander Isak headline a £608m team following an explosive transfer window
Record-Breaking Transfers Shape 2025 Premier League Summer Window
The 2025 summer transfer window witnessed a frenzy of activity across the Premier League, with a staggering £3 billion spent across all 20 clubs. This article highlights some of the most significant transfers that shaped the new season.
Arsenal were among the big spenders, bolstering their squad with the acquisition of Eberechi Eze. The midfielder, who scored 40 goals and provided 28 assists at Crystal Palace, including the winner in their FA Cup triumph last season, is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the Arsenal midfield.
Liverpool broke the British transfer record twice during the window. First, they signed Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen for £116.5m, making him the most expensive transfer in Premier League history. Wirtz, who won the Bundesliga title and was named Player of the Season with 11 goals and 12 assists, is a promising addition to the Liverpool attack. Shortly after, Liverpool completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record fee of £125 million. Isak, who scored two goals on his first start for Newcastle, is expected to strengthen Liverpool's front line.
Chelsea also strengthened their defence with the signing of Jorrel Hato from his former club for £37m. Hato, a centre-back, is expected to compete for a spot in the Chelsea defence. Meanwhile, Joao Pedro was brought in from Brighton for £60m, providing a formidable option up front.
Sunderland, making their return to the Premier League, were not shy about their spending. They splashed out £164m in a bid to avoid an immediate return to the Championship. Granit Xhaka, who made 297 appearances for Arsenal before moving to Leverkusen, returned to the Premier League with a switch to Sunderland.
Manchester City bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for £26m. The Italian international is expected to compete with Ederson for the number one spot.
At Tottenham, Mohamed Kudus was signed from their rivals for an undisclosed fee. Kudus, who has already made four appearances for Tottenham, assisting two goals, will add depth to the Spurs attack.
Elsewhere, Newcastle strengthened their defence with the signing of Malick Thiaw from AC Milan for £35m. Thiaw, a 24-year-old German centre-back, is a timely addition as Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are both 34 years old.
These transfers, among others, have set the stage for an exciting new season in the Premier League. Fans can look forward to seeing these new signings in action as the season unfolds.
