Preparation for the Asia Cup Boosted by Tri-Series, According to Coach Lalchand Rajput (UAE)
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) cricket team is gearing up for the Asia Cup 2025, following a challenging Tri-Nation Series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Despite losing all four matches, the team has shown promising signs of improvement that coach Lalchand Rajput believes will translate into success in the upcoming tournament.
Rajput, who has a rich history of winning the Ranji Trophy 42 times in Mumbai cricket, is optimistic about the UAE's preparation for the Asia Cup. He noted several positives from the recent matches, praising the team's resilience in close encounters against Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In the Tri-Nation Series, the UAE narrowly lost to Afghanistan by just four runs in their most recent match. However, Rajput sees these close losses as opportunities for growth and believes that with consistent execution, the team can start converting performances into wins.
The UAE's Asia Cup campaign will begin on September 10 at Dubai International Stadium. The team, led by star opener Muhammad Waseem, will face India, Pakistan, and Oman as opponents in Group A. The UAE will play Oman at Abu Dhabi's Zayed Cricket Stadium on September 15, followed by a match against Pakistan on September 17.
Rajput has challenged senior players to take greater responsibility in the Asia Cup, instilling a winning mentality in the team. He lauded the form of Waseem and fellow veteran Asif Ali, expressing confidence that the team will carry positives from their past month's preparations into the tournament.
The Asia Cup 2025 will kick off on September 9 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Rajput praised the board for organising the Tri-Series as preparation for the Asia Cup, believing that many players have benefitted from the competition and are now ready to make their mark in the tournament.
