Preparations Underway for Africa Zone Three Boxing Tournament

Kenya's boxing scene is buzzing with excitement as the country prepares to host the Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship and gears up for the World Men's Boxing Championships, both scheduled for later this year.

The preparations are in full swing, with the boxers currently training with their respective clubs across the nation. This provisional squad, undergoing rigorous training sessions, will be the backbone of the Kenyan team. National coach Musa Benjamin has emphasised the importance of every player, stating that all have an equal chance of getting a national team call-up.

Coach Benjamin has also advised boxers to step up their game when with their clubs. He will use league matches, such as the ones scheduled for Madison Square Garden in Nakuru from September 18-20, to gauge potential team members for the Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship, which will take place in Nairobi from October 15-25 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Kenya finished runners-up in the last Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship held in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa. The hosts of the last tournament, the Democratic Republic of Congo, won the overall title. The continental showpiece has attracted 8 out of 14 member countries this year, with Kenya fielding two teams as the hosting country, a tradition in the tournament.

The event is being used by 'The Hit Squad' to prepare for the World Men's Boxing Championships, whose venue is yet to be confirmed. The training sessions are being overseen by a panel of three coaches, ensuring that the boxers are in top form for the upcoming challenges.

As the countdown to the Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship begins, Kenyan boxing fans are eagerly awaiting the final squad selection, which will be determined after the league matches. However, as of now, no specific names of Kenyan boxers have been mentioned in the search results currently considered for the national selection training for the Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship in Nairobi in October.

Stay tuned for more updates on Kenya's boxing journey towards the Africa Zone Three Boxing Championship and the World Men's Boxing Championships.
