Previous editor of Kress, Bülend Ürük, is now appointed as the top communicator for Funke
In a significant move, the Funke Media Group has announced the appointment of Uruk as the successor to Tobias Korenke in the role of corporate communications. Uruk, known for his journalistic experience and extensive network in politics and business, will join the Executive Board, the highest operational steering committee of the media group.
Uruk's career path is marked by a diverse range of experiences. He began his journey in media as a digital editor at Funke Media Group 15 years ago, a fact that makes him familiar to Funke Publisher Julia Becker. After leaving Funke, Uruk moved on to the specialist medium "kress" where he served as Digital Editor-in-Chief for over seven years.
Following his departure from "kress" in 2019, Uruk ventured into political communication, serving as deputy spokesperson of the CDU Germany and spokesperson of the General Secretary. Most recently, his focus has been on strategic consulting and positioning of personalities and companies. Uruk has also taken a sabbatical for further education before joining Funke Media Group.
Tobias Korenke, who has been in charge of corporate communications since 2013, with a break from 2019 to 2021, will remain connected to the media group through his involvement in the initiative Yeswecan!
In addition to this personnel change, Funke Media Group is also making moves to streamline its operations. The company plans to cut around 70 jobs as part of the creation of a regional media central desk. This move is aimed at improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Notably, Uruk is not the only new addition to the Funke family. The media group recently completed the 100% acquisition of the platform "Chefkoch" on Thursday.
Becker expressed her confidence in Uruk, stating that she believes he will be a strong voice in public for a free press. However, specific details about Uruk's responsibilities at Funke Media Group were not provided.
