Prize of $1.3M Lottery Remains Independent Court's Decision
In August 2023, Mandeep Singh Maan won a staggering CAD 2 million BC/49 jackpot. However, his victory was met with controversy when four of his coworkers filed a lawsuit, claiming the winning ticket had been purchased for their lottery pool.
The lawsuit, filed by Balvinder Kaur Nagar, Binipal Singh Sanghera, Jeevan Pedan, and Sukhjinder Singh Sidhu, alleged that Maan had been part of their unofficial lottery syndicate and had collectively purchased tickets together for a few years.
However, the evidence presented in the lawsuit had holes, according to Justice Liliane Bantourakis. The court found that there was no evidence in the WhatsApp group that the winning ticket was part of a group purchase, and the lottery pool agreement was not regular and frequent.
One of the plaintiffs claimed to have given Maan money to buy the ticket, but this story was found unreliable. Justice Liliane Bantourakis ruled that the plaintiffs did not have legal entitlement to the jackpot money and allowed Maan to keep his prize.
Interestingly, Maan was spending approximately CAD 400 on lottery tickets every month, a habit that might have surprised some, but Maan has remained tight-lipped about his winnings and future plans. He has expressed that changing jobs would make him feel like a loser or liar, so it seems he has no intention of leaving his current position due to the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, the Red Rock Casino Resort in Las Vegas continues to deliver several big prizes to its visitors, reminding us all that luck can strike at any moment. Despite the drama surrounding Maan's jackpot win, it serves as a reminder of the thrill and excitement that comes with playing the lottery.
It's worth noting that no public information is available about any charges filed against Mandeep Singh Maan related to his CAD 2 million BC/49 jackpot win in August 2023. As the dust settles on this legal battle, Maan can finally enjoy his well-deserved win in peace.
