Mercedes Recalls Thousands of Vehicles Worldwide Due to Potential Steering Issue

In a move to ensure the safety of its customers, Mercedes-Benz has issued a global recall for certain models due to a potential issue with the screw connection at the steering coupling. This recall affects approximately 17,600 vehicles worldwide, including around 3,800 in the USA and 2,651 in Germany.

The affected models include the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206), Mercedes-Benz EQE (W295, Saloon, fully electric), Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV (W254), and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé (W254 Coupé derivatives). These vehicles were produced between March 2022 and July 2025.

Mercedes considers this a safety-related issue, as if the screw connection is not properly tightened, the steering could potentially fail completely. The connection ensures direct force transmission from the steering wheel to the steering gear.

Dealerships will inspect the screw connection and make any necessary repairs at no cost to the owners. In the USA, the action is underway under the designation NHTSA 25V533. In Germany, the recall is registered with the Federal Motor Transport Authority under reference number 15473R.

Mercedes will notify affected customers in writing, with owners in the USA being notified starting mid-October 2025. German owners can check if their vehicle is affected by using the vehicle identification number (VIN) through Mercedes' online query or the KBA's recall database.

Owners are strongly recommended to schedule an appointment at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership as soon as possible to have their vehicles inspected and any necessary repairs made. Mercedes is following its policy of eliminating potential risks early and keeping vehicles up-to-date.

This recall has an international scope, affecting countries such as Canada, Mexico, and several European countries, including France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

By addressing this issue, Mercedes aims to maintain the high safety standards its customers have come to expect. The company encourages all affected owners to take advantage of the recall process and have their vehicles inspected and repaired as needed.
