Vodafone GmbH has taken a significant step in improving mobile broadband coverage in Germany, with the launch of a new mobile network station in Illesheim. This move eliminates a dead zone in the region, marking a milestone in Vodafone's ongoing infrastructure expansion.
The new station is part of Vodafone's commitment to reach more than 90% of the population in Germany with its 5G network. In the coming twelve months, two new sites will be put into operation in Münchsteinach, further bolstering this coverage.
The expansion doesn't stop there. By mid-2026, Vodafone plans to realize a total of five more mobile network construction projects in the district, ensuring that more communities can enjoy the benefits of 5G.
Vodafone's network is not just about connecting people but also businesses. Its machine network (Narrowband IoT) for industry and business operates on more than 97% of Germany's surface area, underscoring its commitment to driving digital transformation.
In a statement, Vodafone Germany's Chief Technology Officer, Tanja Richter, emphasized the importance of the mobile network for both quality of life and local economy.
The new station in Illesheim is also equipped with advanced emergency call technology (AML) and the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast. This means that residents can now rely on improved emergency services, with their exact location automatically transmitted to the emergency control center when calling "112".
In addition, the station will provide disaster warnings via smartphone about hazardous situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods. This feature is crucial for ensuring the safety of the surrounding population.
Furthermore, Vodafone is planning 5G upgrades of the radio sites in the communities of Markt Bibart and Uehlfeld, as well as the installation of additional LTE antennas at an existing site to create larger network capacities in Markt Bibart.
Looking ahead, in the next 12 months, Vodafone will build new mobile network stations in Ramstein-Miesenbach and upgrade existing stations to improve mobile broadband, including adding antennas in Frankenstein. Overall, 33 current non-5G stations are planned to be upgraded to 5G where feasible, with four new construction projects planned in the Kaiserslautern district by mid-2026.
Vodafone's ongoing infrastructure projects are making a tangible difference, connecting millions of people and businesses, and providing internet, mobile, fixed-line, and TV services. As one of the leading communications conglomerates in Germany, Vodafone continues to drive the nation's digital transformation, ensuring that more and more communities can enjoy the benefits of high-speed connectivity.
