Promoting a Tidy Detmold: Keeping Our City Spic and Span

In the city of Detmold, a new initiative has been launched to promote a cleaner and more pleasant public environment. The Freiraumplanung team of the city portal is responsible for this initiative, which involves the installation of friendly reminder signs encouraging dog owners to dispose of their pets' waste properly.

These signs, designed by cartoonist André Sedlaczek, are not prohibition or command signs but rather a charming way to draw attention to the issue. They can be found in various public spaces, including parks, squares, children's playgrounds, and connecting paths. The first signs have been put up in the Friedrichstal park area and some can also be seen in the city center.

The importance of this initiative becomes evident when considering the potential consequences of improper dog waste disposal. Leaving pet waste behind can lead to unpleasant situations for others, and despite the widespread "bag culture", there are still dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets.

Inga Müller and Stephan Szymanowski, urban planners responsible for the open space planning of the city portal, specialize in designing and organizing public outdoor areas. They believe that these signs will help solve or at least reduce the problem of dog waste in public spaces, making them more enjoyable for all citizens.

For inquiries regarding this initiative, contact Daniela Lang, who can be reached via email or phone number 05231 977 201. The press release about the dog waste disposal signs is also available from the city portal.

As more locations, including neighborhood parks and green connections near playgrounds, are added, the hope is that the message will reach a wider audience and contribute to a cleaner and more pleasant city for all.
