Special Operation Enhances Security in Bottrop
On Friday, July 25, 2021, a special operation was conducted in the areas around the central bus station and Ehrenpark, Bottrop, by the Recklinghausen Police and the municipal public order service of Bottrop. The operation, led by the North Rhine-Westphalia State Police, aimed to address street crime, drug crime, and street racing, with the goal of enhancing the sense of security among the population.
During the operation, which lasted from 12:00 to 20:00, a total of 60 conversations between the KOD (Criminal Investigation Department), police, and citizens of Bottrop took place. The police were on site with support from a police dog handler and his dog, who was used to detect drugs.
Several violations were identified during the operation. Seven violations by cyclists, five violations by dog owners, two instances of traffic obstruction, and two violations using an e-scooter were detected. Furthermore, five violations of the municipal ordinance of the city of Bottrop were detected, resulting in two administrative offense reports (Owi report). Twelve other persons were controlled by the police during the operation.
An investigation team from the criminal investigation department for combating drug crime managed to identify a suspected drug dealer at "Trapez". A 27-year-old, without a fixed address in Germany, was found in possession of marijuana and a small amount of hard drugs, apparently cocaine. The individual was arrested, and his mobile phone and the narcotics were secured for further investigation. After his identity was established at Bottrop police station, he was released after posting bail, following consultation with the public prosecutor's office.
Three individuals were given a ban on assembly. A person wanted by a warrant was also found and arrested during the operation.
Residents of Bottrop had the opportunity to exchange views with employees of the criminal investigation department for prevention and victim support. Friederike Zurhausen, a representative from the police, stated that the police aim to maintain a high level of control in the ZOB area of Bottrop and have no tolerance for criminal behavior.
