In an effort to halt the loss of insect species, the city of Dresden is creating approximately 1,600 square meters of new flower meadows. The "Jugend - Arbeit - Bildung" association will be responsible for the sowing and installation of insect hotels in these areas, with the support and assistance of experts from the Office for Urban Greenery in Dresden.

The search is on for fallow land of at least 100 square meters in urban areas, municipal and non-profit facilities, housing cooperatives, nursing homes, daycare centers, meadows, abandoned sites, roadside strips, flower strips, and erosion control strips. Potential locations will be considered by the "Jugend - Arbeit - Bildung" association.

If you have a suitable area in mind, please contact [email protected] to propose it for conversion into a flower meadow. The proposal should include the exact location, size (approximately length/width), and a local contact person.

The creation and equipment of these new blooming areas is part of a larger initiative to preserve insect species. In addition to the flower meadows, the areas will also be equipped with insect hotels. These structures provide homes for beneficial insects, helping to support the local ecosystem.

Experts from the Office for Urban Greenery in Dresden will offer assistance in the creation and maintenance of the new flower meadows, including with irrigation. Their expertise will ensure that the meadows are well-maintained and thrive, providing a vital habitat for insects.

A funding program in Dresden provides 70,000 euros for the creation of more flower meadows, making it possible for the city to make a significant impact in preserving insect species.

Dresden residents are encouraged to report suitable areas for the creation of flower meadows. Together, we can make a difference in preserving the diverse insect species that call our city home.
