The equestrian world is set to witness an exciting event as the 1st Rhön Distance Ride takes place in the picturesque Kaltennordheimer district of Fischbach on the 30th and 31st of August. This unique competition, held within the Biosphere Reserve, will see horse-rider pairs covering various distances as they navigate the beautiful yet challenging landscape of the Rhön mountain ranges.

Unlike classical dressage or show jumping tournaments, endurance riding is all about harmoniously covering long distances with an equine partner. The goal is to cover as many kilometers as possible quickly and gently, a testament to the rider's skill, the horse's fitness and agility, and the mutual trust between the human-horse team.

The competition requires strict adherence to veterinary checks to ensure the well-being of the horses. Values such as pulse, respiration, gait, and the horse's overall condition are crucial in the competition, both before, during, and after the ride. Only successful completion of these checks allows endurance riders and horses to continue and finish the ride in the rankings.

On the 30th of August, spectators can watch the experienced riders of the longer distances (47 to 88 kilometers) as they embark on their challenging journey. The four routes of the event start at the sports field in Fischbach, passing through Hohe Asch, Roßhof, and Ibengarten.

For those new to endurance riding, a beginner's ride over 26 kilometers is available on the 31st of August. This is an excellent opportunity for novices to experience the thrill of long-distance challenges and understand the needs of their equine partners, while promoting teamwork and camaraderie.

The 1st Rhön Distance Ride through the Land of Open Distance in Fischbach on August 30 and 31 was organized by the association "Land der Offenen Distanz." For more information about the event, visit www.distanzreiten-thueringen.de. With a limited number of participants (20 per day), quick registration is essential for those eager to participate in this exciting event.

In conclusion, the 1st Rhön Distance Ride promises to be an exhilarating test of endurance and mutual trust between riders and their horses. As they traverse the stunning landscapes of the Rhön mountain ranges, these teams will showcase the beauty and power of the human-horse partnership, making this event a must-see for equestrian enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
