Gießen, a charming town in Germany, is currently buzzing with excitement as it embraces its unique identity and celebrates all things elephant-themed. The city's latest project, "Giessen is ELEFANTAS-TIC because...", aims to activate the inner city, promote creativity, and enhance the quality of stay for its visitors.

The heart of this celebration is the historical Elephant Toilet, a significant location that once accommodated and presented exotic animals, including elephants. Now, it serves as a source of inspiration for a variety of products available at the Tourist Information. From Baby Bodys and mugs to magnets and T-shirts, all regionally produced or refined, these items are now part of the city's Elephantastic collection.

But the Elephant Toilet isn't the only elephant-themed attraction in town. Elephants can be spotted riding rickshaws, on the loose (presumably as part of an event or activity), and even participating in the city's Christmas celebrations. Mid-November will see the introduction of a new product: the Elephant toilet pulling the Gießen Christmas tree.

The city's love for elephants extends beyond physical attractions. Gießen is hosting a literature day about elephants, a mascot meeting, and even an Elephantastic Chess tournament. For music lovers, great events are happening at various locations around the city.

Gießen's commitment to sustainability is evident as it promotes itself as a Fair Trade City. Visitors can rest assured that their purchases contribute positively to the community and the environment.

The Tourist Information, open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, offers more than just regional products. It provides free information on events, sights, and leisure activities, as well as tickets for city tours and other events.

The city's transformation into an Elephantastic city is not just a temporary spectacle. It's a testament to Gießen's spirit of creativity, community, and dedication to providing an unforgettable experience for its visitors. The project, funded by Giessen's Economic Development, is a celebration of the city's rich history, particularly its connection to the renowned chemist Justus von Liebig, who taught at the University of Gießen.

In the heart of Gießen, a life-sized model of a mammoth baby, named "Majuba", is on display at the Herrmann-Hoffmann-Academy, adding another layer of wonder to the city's Elephantastic journey. So, if you find yourself in Germany, be sure to visit Gießen and experience its Elephantastic charm for yourself!
