Protestors United Against IAA escalate demonstrations at Munich City Hall
In the heart of Munich, climate activists have been making their voices heard against the IAA Mobility car show. On Tuesday evening, around 50 participants, organised by the Munich Nature Conservation Association (BN), gathered at Munich Town Hall to voice their concerns.
The demonstration continued into Wednesday morning, with the activists focusing their resistance on the use of public spaces in the city centre during the show. Some of the protesters wore yellow vests to identify themselves, while others blended in with the town hall visitors.
On the second floor of the town hall, the Climate Council was meeting, and the activists positioned themselves with banners in front of meeting rooms. Their goal was to influence the decision regarding the continuation of IAA Mobility, with the aim to prevent the show from taking place in Munich or on public spaces in the city centre in the future.
The police were present, with approximately 40 officers gathered in the entrance area of Munich Town Hall. The authorities intervened to remove the climate activists, but the protesters were not deterred. They displayed posters and chanted slogans such as "Protecting the climate is not difficult, free public transport."
The first activists were taken away around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, and the protesters spread out, leaving their messages in several floors of the town hall. On Tuesday afternoon, the Munich Nature Conservation Association (BN) had also held a demonstration at Odeonsplatz against the IAA, calling for stronger climate protection.
As of now, there are no relevant search results available regarding the specifics of the climate activists' protest actions at Mönchhof on Monday evening. The continuation of IAA Mobility will be discussed in the city council on Wednesday. The climate activists left the town hall without major incidents on Wednesday morning.
The protest serves as a reminder of the ongoing debate and concern over the environmental impact of such events, and the growing movement to push for more sustainable solutions. The future of IAA Mobility in Munich remains uncertain, with the city council set to make a decision in the coming days.
