In cities across Germany, people took to the streets to honour Ukraine's Independence Day and show support for the country's struggle against war-related abductions of children.

The demonstration in Berlin, organised under the motto "Future Needs Remembrance," saw approximately 1,500 people gather at Breitscheidplatz and march towards Brandenburg Gate. A total of twenty different organisations participated, including local initiatives like SonyashnyKiel and international groups such as the Deutsch-Ukrainische Gesellschaft and the Deutsch-Ukrainische Verein Rozmova.

As the crowd moved through the city, they waved Ukrainian flags and carried a large banner that read "Bring Ukrainian Children back!" The organisers aimed to "set a strong sign for justice, freedom, and remembrance." Initially, they had expected up to 2,500 participants for the march.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine congratulated his countrymen on the Independence Day, three and a half years after the war began. In a speech broadcast on Telegram, he promised a better future for Ukraine, saying, "We will create a Ukraine that has enough strength and power to live in security and peace."

The demonstration in Hamburg also commemorated Ukraine's Independence Day, but the exact location of the gathering was not specified in the article. The protesters in both cities remembered the children and youth abducted from Russian-occupied territories during the war.

Elsewhere in Germany, similar demonstrations were held, with hundreds to over a thousand supporters participating. The events were a testament to the solidarity felt by many Germans towards Ukraine and its people.
