Microsoft Unveils Next-Generation Search Mission with Bing Chatbot

At the Microsoft Build 2023 event, Yusuf Mehdi, the CVP and consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft, announced the start of the next generation of the 'search mission'. This announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of Bing Chat, an AI-powered chatbot that is now available to everyone without a waitlist.

Bing Chat is designed to revolutionise the way users interact with search engines. It offers multimodal search capabilities, extending its reach to mobile devices via the Edge app. This means users can now ask questions related to the mobile page they are currently viewing.

One of the key features of Bing Chat is its language capabilities expansion. It aims to make the chatbot more versatile and user-friendly, understanding over 100 languages besides English. Users can also input images, not just text, into Bing Chat.

Bing Chat is not just a tool for text-based searches. It incorporates visual features such as Knowledge Cards, which display relevant images, charts, or graphs when appropriate. It also stores users' chat histories for resumable chats.

To make Bing Chat even more engaging, Microsoft is integrating third-party plug-ins such as Wolfram Alpha for advanced mathematical calculations and graphs, and Open Table for seamless restaurant reservations. These integrations aim to enrich Bing Chat's chat experience.

The open preview version of Bing Chat is currently available for users. To access it, users need to sign in to the new Bing or Edge browser with their Microsoft account. The open preview is being used to actively seek user feedback for improvement and customisation.

Further details on Bing Chat's capabilities and developer opportunities will be shared at Microsoft's Build conference. Since its private preview launch in February, Bing Chat has already attracted over 100 million daily active users, facilitating over half a billion chats. It has also resulted in the creation of more than 200 million images, powered by Bing Image Creator, which is powered by DALL-E 2.

Microsoft's Bing Chatbot is set to redefine the search experience, offering a more interactive, versatile, and user-friendly platform for users worldwide.
