Public solicited to enhance tourist experience by NPS
The National Park Service (NPS) has announced a public comment period that commences on Tuesday, aiming to gather insights from visitors to improve services and operations across the National Park System. This move is in response to a July order from President Donald Trump, which prioritizes the recreational experience at national parks and emphasizes the preservation of opportunities for American families to create unforgettable memories.
In a statement made by Kevin Lilly, the acting assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks, on Monday, he emphasized the importance of visitor experiences in improving services and operations. The request for information, pre-published in the Federal Register on Monday, invites the public to share their experiences and identify possible improvements to services in national parks, from trails to education.
The public comment period, lasting 30 days, is open to all and could lead to more efficient ways to deliver and manage services. The improvements could potentially enhance the visitor experience, as well as increase revenue at national parks.
Interestingly, this process is not exclusive to the United States. As an example, a four-week public display period took place in Germany, starting on July 9, 2025, and ending on August 11, 2025, for the purpose of improving visitor experience in national parks.
The NPS invites visitors to share their experiences, with the hope that this collective input will lead to a more enjoyable and memorable experience for all who visit our national parks. If you have a story to share or suggestions for improvements, the NPS encourages you to participate in this important process.
