In August 2024, the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) market witnessed a surge in sales, with several manufacturers experiencing their best months yet.

Tesla, a leading player in the EV industry, is reported to have delivered around 45,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. during the month, although exact figures for August are yet to be released.

Meanwhile, General Motors (GM) had a stellar performance, delivering nearly 22,000 EVs in August. The Equinox EV, in particular, marked its second consecutive month at a volume of over 8,500 units. The Chevy brand, under GM, could potentially join the high-volume EV club with its current performance.

Ford also had a strong month, with the Mach-E and F-150 Lightning seeing significant increases. However, the company delivered only about half as many EVs as GM, likely due to production constraints and market demand differences. The F-150 Lightning, despite outselling Tesla's Cybertruck, experienced a sales drop of about one quarter last quarter.

Honda delivered 9,347 Prologue EVs and over 500 ZDX EVs in August, with GM being the primary supplier for these models. Kia, on the other hand, delivered just under 4,500 EVs, with the Kia EV9 and EV6 exceeding their monthly run rates. Subaru delivered 1,466 Solteras, a figure similar to the number delivered in August of 2023.

Volvo's August global EV deliveries were down by 28%, while Mercedes-Benz halted shipments of its EQ electric vehicle line in America during the month.

The U.S. EV subsidies are ending in the current quarter, which could impact the market dynamics. Despite this, August and the quarter ending September 30th are expected to be the best ever for the U.S. EV market, with many popular EV models experiencing record-breaking sales.
