Queen Elizabeth's Private Opinions Concerning Meghan Markle

Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch who ruled the United Kingdom for over seven decades, had a complex relationship with her grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. The details of this relationship have been the subject of much speculation and discussion, with several reports and allegations surfacing over the years.

According to reports, Queen Elizabeth II expressed concern about the relationship between Meghan and her new family members, including Prince William and Kate Middleton. These concerns were later revealed by the Queen's closest confidante, indicating disappointment and a desire for reconciliation.

One of the most notable incidents that strained the relationship was the Oprah Winfrey interview, broadcast on 7 March 2021, where Harry and Meghan made several allegations about the Royal Family. The interview prompted Buckingham Palace to comment that the allegations would be addressed privately.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith claims that Queen Elizabeth II and her innermost circle had doubts about Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle long before 2020. Lady Elizabeth Anson, Queen Elizabeth's cousin and party planner, expressed concerns about Meghan Markle before the wedding, stating that "We hope but don't quite think [Meghan] is in love. We think she engineered it all."

One of the allegations made in the Oprah interview was that the Royal Family had expressed concerns about "how dark" Meghan's first child's skin would be when he was born (allegedly said to Harry, not Meghan herself). This allegation of racism dismayed Queen Elizabeth II.

Tensions between Queen Elizabeth and Meghan Markle are said to have crept in as their wedding approached. One incident that caused upset was when Harry asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform the wedding service in May 2018, without seeking permission from the Dean of Windsor.

The stepback of Prince Harry and Meghan from royal life, known as Megxit, is believed to have caused Queen Elizabeth significant upset and stress in the last few years of her life. Queen Elizabeth was reportedly dismayed when Meghan wouldn't give her any details about her wedding dress.

The former courtier stated that the Queen felt betrayed by Harry and Meghan's attack on the institution they served. Prince Harry was reportedly "rude" to the Queen "for 10 minutes" in one meeting. The Oprah interview and its allegations of racism were a horrific series of betrayals in Queen Elizabeth's eyes.

Despite the strained relationship, the Queen continued to perform her duties, maintaining a public image of unity and grace. However, the impact of these events on her personal life and the monarchy as a whole is still a topic of discussion and analysis.
