Racing icon Will Power departs from Team Penske after a 17-year stint, joining forces with Andretti Global instead.
After 17 years with Team Penske, Australian racing legend Will Power is making a significant move to Andretti Global for the 2026 IndyCar season.
Power, a two-time IndyCar champion and former Indianapolis 500 winner, brings over 20 years of record-breaking IndyCar experience to the American racing team. His 45 career victories rank fourth on the IndyCar win list, and he has passed racing icon Mario Andretti as IndyCar's best qualifier with 71 poles.
The move to Andretti Global is a significant loss for General Motors, as Power has been a key driver for the brand at Team Penske. However, Power is excited about the opportunity to work with the Andretti team and is looking forward to meeting his new colleagues.
Power will be driving the No. 26 Honda for Andretti Global next season. He will join Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson and Kyle Kirkwood in a three-car lineup at the team. Power is replacing Colton Herta, who is moving to Europe to be a test driver for a Cadillac Formula 1 team's debut season.
Power's decision to leave Penske was due to feeling slighted and cornered into negotiating a one-year deal. Despite this, he has expressed gratitude towards Dan, Jill, and the Penske team for the opportunities they have given him over the years.
Power's tenure with Team Penske will conclude on December 31, 2023. It is not yet clear who will replace him in the No. 12 at Team Penske, but it is expected that 23-year-old driver David Malukas will take over the role.
Power has impressed many with his natural ability, and he has wished Colton Herta success in Europe as he embarks on a new chapter in his career. Power is the most veteran and winningest driver at Andretti Global, and he is excited to help the team win in 2026.
