Radio Host Howard Stern Tricks Audience, Remains Unmoved from SiriusXM Broadcast
In a recent development, SiriusXM's chief content officer and president, Scott Greenstein, expressed optimism about the ongoing contract renewal discussions with radio personality Howard Stern.
Stern, who has been with SiriusXM since 2006, addressed media speculation regarding his retirement or potential dismissal. He swiftly denied any such claims, stating there is "zero truth" to reports suggesting he was fired or intends to leave.
During his Monday morning broadcast, Stern did not confirm or deny a deal extension with SiriusXM. However, he did admit that he had considered retirement at some point but clarified that he is not planning to depart from the platform.
The initial deal Stern signed with SiriusXM in 2004 was a blockbuster one, worth $500 million over five years. This deal gave Stern the freedom to be himself, a sentiment he expressed, saying he felt stifled for 10 years on traditional radio.
Bloomberg reported in 2020 that Stern's contracts with SiriusXM were renewed for amounts between $80 million and $100 million per year. The SiriusXM contract, which began in January 2006, has been instrumental in significantly increasing the platform's subscriber numbers.
Greenstein has been vocal about his admiration for Stern, praising him as the "best interviewer out there" during a conference. Stern's deal with SiriusXM has not only provided him with creative freedom but also boosted the popularity of the platform.
Rumours of Stern leaving SiriusXM over his displeasure with a deal for "Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper were also dismissed by Stern, who reiterated his commitment to the platform.
As the talks continue, fans of Stern and SiriusXM eagerly await an official announcement regarding the renewal of the contract. Stay tuned for more updates.
