Fire at Muhleneck Primary School's Gymnasium in Hannover
A fire broke out at the gymnasium of the Muhleneck primary school in Hannover-Misburg on Thursday evening. The smoke cloud from the fire was visible over large parts of the eastern part of the city.
Upon receiving reports of the fire at 18:44, the Hannover Fire Department dispatched around 110 emergency service personnel to the scene. Upon arrival, the fire had already spread to the building, and the fire department sounded the alarm.
The deputy chief of the fire department in Hannover, Gregor Fleischmann, stated that the operation to control the fire was challenging due to its dynamic spread. After three hours of intensive firefighting, the fire is currently under control, but follow-up firefighting operations are expected to continue until late into the night due to the collapsed roof of the hall.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire outbreak. However, two firefighters suffered burns during the initial firefighting efforts, and a rescue vehicle was damaged due to the high intensity of the fire. The injured firefighters were treated by the rescue service and taken to a hospital in Hannover. They suffered burns to their hands.
The gymnasium was almost completely destroyed, and the fire did not spread to the adjacent school building. The original content for this article was transmitted via news aktuell from the Fire Department Hannover.
