Railway passage through Pforzheimer tunnel to remain shut until 9th of September
The final phase of the new Pforzheim railway tunnel construction is underway, with significant disruptions expected in the coming weeks.
The Pforzheim-Karlsruhe line will be interrupted between Pforzheim and Wilferdingen-Singen for six weeks, starting from July 30. The existing tunnel will be closed during this period, and the new tunnel is expected to be operational from September 10.
During the construction, the Güterstraße will be partially closed from the intersection with Salierstraße to 50 meters behind the construction entrance. Similarly, the Emil-Strauss-Straße will be partially closed from the B294 in the coming weeks. Warning signs will also be set up on the Königsbacher Landstraße at the construction site of the northern tunnel portal.
The railway has chosen the summer holiday period for the final construction works to minimise disruption to regular commuter traffic. Fewer trains are operating during peak travel times during the summer holidays. However, regular train services through the new tunnel are expected to resume from September 10.
Track and overhead line work will be done as part of the tunnel connection. The new tunnel will be connected to the railway network after completion.
In the meantime, the currently served connections are being operated by buses as part of a rail replacement service between Pforzheim Central Station and Wilferdingen-Singen Station (and the stations in Karlsruhe for long-distance trains). The Deutsche Bahn's online timetable information takes these replacement services into account, so corresponding connections and times are included in current train schedules.
Despite the disruptions, the construction of the new Pforzheim railway tunnel is a significant step towards improving the infrastructure and enhancing the travel experience for commuters in the region. The new tunnel is expected to provide a more efficient and reliable service, reducing delays and improving overall travel times.
It is important to note that the search results do not provide information about the company responsible for the construction of the new Pforzheim railway tunnel. Nonetheless, the project is progressing as planned, and the completion date remains September 9.
Travelers are advised to check the Deutsche Bahn's website or mobile app for the latest information on train schedules and replacement services during the construction period. By planning ahead and allowing extra time for their journeys, travelers can ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience.
