Railway services between Görlitz and Zittau will be suspended for a fortnight.
The popular Line RB65, which typically runs between Zittau and Cottbus, stopping at Görlitz and Horka among other stations, is experiencing some changes in the coming months.
On July 18, 2022, an announcement was made that trains between Niesky and Görlitz would be suspended until September, affecting the service on the RB65 line. This suspension is due to the renovation of Görlitz station, which includes reinforcing steel beams and renewing platforms.
During this period, a replacement bus service has been set up for passengers affected by the railway suspension. Passengers are advised to check bahn.de for information on replacement stops and timetables.
Construction work on the railway line between Görlitz and Zittau is set to begin on September 9, 2025. As a result, trains on the RB65 line will be suspended between Görlitz and Zittau from September 10 to 24. On September 24, RB65 trains will not run between Horka and Zittau.
The good news is that electric trains will be able to run to Görlitz again from 2026. However, initially, they will only be connected to the rail power network from the eastern direction. By 2026, trains will run electrically to Görlitz, but only from Poland.
The resumption of the electric train service from Poland to Görlitz is planned for around 2027, marking the return of this service after the electrification of the Görlitz station up to the Polish border.
It's worth noting that the rail operator ODEG is facing challenges due to repeated incidents of damage and disturbances by football fans on regional trains. These incidents have sparked protests.
In a statement on March 8, 2024, Pro Bahn called a track closure the 'lifeline' of Lusatia an outrage.
