New York Rangers Shake Up Hockey Operations Department

The New York Rangers have made several changes to their hockey operations department, promoting current assistant general manager Jim Sullivan and welcoming new faces Ryane Clowe and Blake Wheeler.

Jim Sullivan, who has been with the team for 17 seasons, has been promoted to assistant general manager. Sullivan, who has served as vice president of hockey strategy and data management for the last four seasons, will continue to play a crucial role in the team's strategic decisions.

Ryane Clowe, who spent three years in the Rangers' hockey operations department from the 2021-22 to 2023-24 seasons, has returned to the team as assistant general manager. Clowe, who previously held the titles of hockey operations advisor and co-senior advisor, brings valuable experience to his new role. Before his time with the Rangers, Clowe spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils and played parts of 10 seasons in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers, and New Jersey Devils.

Blake Wheeler, who played in 1,172 NHL games, split between the Boston Bruins, Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets, and the New York Rangers, with whom he played his final season in 2023-24, has joined the Rangers as a hockey operations advisor. Wheeler was instrumental in the Rangers' success during the 2023-24 season, as the team set single-season franchise records with 55 wins and 114 points, won the Presidents' Trophy as the NHL's top regular-season team, and advanced to the Eastern Conference Final.

Ryan Martin, who has held the role of assistant general manager and general manager of the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate, since joining the club, has been promoted to associate general manager. Martin, who spent eight full seasons as general manager of the Red Wings' AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, and 16 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, serving as the team's assistant general manager for the final 11 seasons of his tenure, will provide valuable leadership to the Rangers' front office.

With these changes, the Rangers' hockey operations department is well-positioned for continued success in the coming seasons. Fans can look forward to seeing the team's new leadership in action as they work to bring another Stanley Cup to Madison Square Garden.
