Ulysse Nardin Unveils the Freak Crystalium: A Limited Edition Masterpiece

Ulysse Nardin, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer, has once again pushed the boundaries of watchmaking with the introduction of the Freak Crystalium. This limited edition piece, featuring a dial made of Crystalium, a high-tech material based on Ruthenium, is a testament to the brand's commitment to pioneering silicon technology and unconventional watch designs.

The Freak series, first introduced in 2001, has been a disruptor of conventions since its inception. The Freak Crystalium continues this tradition, with its unique disc designs showcasing a combination of natural processes, science, and craftsmanship. Each change of light reveals a different face in the Freak Crystalium - raw, dramatic, luxurious.

Crystalium, used in the Freak Crystalium, is formed in a highly precise gas phase process, resulting in unique geometric patterns on each disc. The responsible institution for the development and manufacturing of this innovative material is Ulysse Nardin itself, specifically developed by their in-house scientists through a high-tech vapor-deposition crystallization process involving Ruthenium.

Ruthenium, a metal ten times rarer than platinum, is used in the creation of Crystalium. The Freak Crystalium case is made of black DLC-coated titanium and measures 43 millimeters in diameter. A rose gold PVD coating and subtle black shading enhance the crystal relief and emphasize depth.

Powering the Freak Crystalium is the automatic caliber UN-230, made in Ulysse Nardin's own Sigatec lab for silicon technology. Time in the Freak Crystalium is displayed via a rotating carousel, with the hours indicated by the Crystalium disc itself. A skeletonized arrow indicates the minutes, which circles with the movement.

The Freak Crystalium is a limited edition piece, with only 50 models produced globally. This exclusivity, combined with its unique design and innovative technology, makes each model a truly unique piece.

Ulysse Nardin continues to inspire with its groundbreaking work in watchmaking. The Freak series, with over 20 patents to its name, has established the brand as a pioneer in silicon technology. The Freak Crystalium is the latest addition to this illustrious lineage, and it is sure to captivate watch enthusiasts worldwide.

In 2019, Ulysse Nardin released the Freak X, a more wearable version of the Freak at 43 millimeters in diameter, but with a crown. For those seeking a truly unique and exclusive timepiece, however, the Freak Crystalium offers an unparalleled experience.

The price of the Freak Crystalium is 42,000 euros. For those who appreciate the artistry, innovation, and craftsmanship that goes into each piece, this investment is a testament to Ulysse Nardin's commitment to pushing the boundaries of watchmaking.
