MIT Offers Summer Certificate Program in Real Estate Finance and Development

MIT Professional Education, in collaboration with the MIT Center for Real Estate, is offering a certificate program in real estate this summer. The program, named the Professional Certificate in Real Estate Finance and Development, will be held June 8-19 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The program comprises five courses taught by world-renowned MIT faculty. Participants will learn to identify and evaluate economically viable commercial real estate projects, evaluate investment properties, and gain a greater understanding of finance theory and taxation principles.

Professor Albert Saiz, director of CRE and an associate professor of urban economics and real estate, will lead the program. Other faculty members include W. Tod McGrath, a lecturer in the Center for Real Estate and president of advisoRE, LLC; David Geltner, a professor of real estate finance in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning with a joint appointment in Engineering Systems Division; and Walter Torous, a senior lecturer holding an appointment with both the CRE's Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) Program and the MIT Sloan School of Management.

The program is open to professionals from around the world and aims to provide insights and skills in real estate development and investment strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to network with and learn from other leading real estate professionals.

Real estate attorneys and guest lecturers will provide real-world examples via two common contracts used in the development process. The course "Global Real Estate Markets" has been added to the program this year, offering participants a greater understanding of the globalization of real estate capital and its impact on pricing, international capital inflows, and how to build a global portfolio.

To earn a certificate, participants must complete the following courses: Real Estate Finance: Fundamentals, Evaluating Real Estate Markets, Real Estate Finance: Advanced, Commercial Real Estate Development, and Global Real Estate Markets.

Professionals enrolling in the entire certificate program in a single year will receive a 15 percent discount, making the fee for all five courses $10,200 - a savings of $1,800. Enrollment for the certificate programs is open until May 1 through the MIT Professional Education website.
