Reason Behind Discontinuation of Latuda Use
In a bid to manage schizophrenia and bipolar depression, an individual embarked on a journey with Lurasidone, an atypical antipsychotic approved in 2010 and 2013 respectively for these conditions. However, after several months of treatment, the individual decided to discontinue the medication due to a lack of improvement and bothersome side effects.
Lurasidone, known to be effective in treating both schizophrenia and bipolar depression, as well as lengthening the time between episodes, unfortunately, did not yield the desired results for this individual. The initial prescription of 20mg per day was later increased to 40mg and then 60mg, but the symptoms of depression did not improve after an initial boost.
The side effects experienced were numerous. Insomnia became a regular struggle, with the individual taking almost two hours to fall asleep at night. Nausea and a decreased appetite were also common, leading to a lack of food intake throughout the day. The restlessness experienced during the afternoons for about an hour was the side effect that bothered the individual the most. To combat this, sleep aids were necessary to ensure a normal amount of sleep.
Despite these challenges, the individual's mood has shown significant improvement since discontinuing Lurasidone. The individual's doctor approved the decision, and they are now working with their psychiatrist to adjust medications.
The individual, who can be found on Twitter @LaRaeRLaBouff and Facebook, is eager to share their experience in the hope it may help others. It's important to remember that what works for one may not work for another, and it's crucial to discuss treatment options thoroughly with healthcare providers.
Lurasidone, while effective for many, did not work for this individual. It's a reminder that mental health treatment is a personal journey, and finding the right medication and dosage can take time and patience.
