Reassembles: Children's Day gathering resumes at Kanguru venue

The Kanguruh Children's Day Care Center, located at Böhmische Straße 26, 01099 Dresden, has reopened its doors to the delight of many children and parents. The reopening, which took place in early August 2025, was made possible by the "We Jump In" Emergency Aid Initiative of SOS Children's Villages Worldwide.

Upon reopening, a crowd of 80 children were waiting eagerly at the door, a testament to the centre's popularity and the need for its services. Currently, 60 to 70 children come regularly to the Kanguruh, with many specifically drawn to its unique creative offers.

The Kanguruh offers a variety of creative activities, including blacksmithing, which sets it apart from other children's centres. The team at the Kanguruh, led by pedagogue Lars Hitzing who has been part of the team for over 20 years, hopes that the city will reconsider its decision about the future of the Kanguruh beyond 2025.

The Kanguruh supports 15 children and youth projects nationwide, some of which have been affected by cuts. The team at the Kanguruh believes that children and youth offers should not be the first to be cut. They emphasize the importance of these services in providing a safe and stimulating environment for children to grow and learn.

The Kanguruh is currently running temporarily due to the team working alongside their new jobs. The centre is open on Mondays and Thursdays, from 2 PM to 6 PM. The team is hopeful that they will be able to secure reliable financial resources to continue the work at the Kanguruh permanently.

Many parents are relieved that the Kanguruh has reopened, although it is only partially. The city's decision regarding the future of the Kanguruh beyond 2025 remains uncertain. For more information about the Kanguruh, interested parties can contact them on Instagram.

In a positive note, the Kanguruh's unique creative offers are still attracting children, despite the temporary reopening. The team at the Kanguruh looks forward to continuing their work, providing a valuable service to the children and youth of Dresden.

On a separate note, the Kangaroo childcare center (Kinderbetreuungszentrum Kanguruh) is also reopening for a limited time in the city of Cologne, Germany. More details about this reopening are expected to be announced soon.
