Recalling Bittersweet Recollections: The Emotional Reminiscence of Some Pasting Challenges at Princeton
In an exclusive conversation with Jacob Schatz '15, Engineering Correspondent Stacey Huang reminisces about her time spent in lab-based research at Princeton University's Laser Sensing Lab.
Huang, who completed her Senior Thesis and lab work at the prestigious institution, shared a particularly memorable incident from her time in the lab. During a required class for Electrical Engineering juniors, she short-circuited a battery, causing it to smoke and emit a foul smell. Despite the mishap, Huang handled the situation with grace, explaining the lingering imperfections in her system to her group members.
The battery incident resulted in the battery being placed in the hazardous waste bin of a professor's lab. Huang also took responsibility for cleaning up equipment from the methane sensor cabinet in the lab.
At an Electrical Engineering senior banquet, Huang was asked to share her fondest memories of the department. She chose to recount the car lab experience, a moment that encapsulated the collaborative spirit and camaraderie of her peers.
As she prepares to embark on a new journey, Huang is planning to start a doctorate program in the fall, committing to at least another 5 years of research. However, the search results do not provide information about which university she will attend to continue her doctoral research.
In the meantime, Huang has asked her group members to give her lab screwdriver a new home. She is currently in the process of wrapping up her graduate school interviews and making decisions about her future.
Huang's story serves as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience that undergraduate research at Princeton University demands. Her experiences in lab-based research are a reminder of the endless possibilities that await those who dare to push the boundaries of knowledge.
