Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievements in Augsburg

In a ceremony held in 2024, eleven dedicated citizens of Augsburg were bestowed the city's prestigious Medal of Merit "FÜR AUGSBURG". This annual honour is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the city, particularly to the local community.

Among the honourees was Josef Strzegowski, a representative of the Round Table of Religions. Strzegowski has been actively engaged in many public events of the Round Table, working to foster understanding and cooperation among different faiths. He was present at the award ceremony of the Heimatpreis for the Peace Festival program and the ceremonial inscription of the Peace Festival in the Bavarian Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019, further highlighting his commitment to the city.

Another honouree was Herbert Niedermirtl, a nurse who has been caring for a Syrian refugee family with a severely disabled child. He organises various aid measures and support options based on his knowledge, and established the refugee aid circle "Aufwind" in Augsburg-Hochzoll, serving as its honorary speaker.

Dr. Tetyana Hoggan-Kloubert, who has been the voice of Ukrainians in Augsburg since February 24, 2022, and co-founded the information point for refugees from Ukraine, was also recognised for her efforts.

Peter Oßwald, a founding member of the Kindergarten-Bauverein, served as the 2nd chairman of the association in Inningen from 1975 until April 2024. His dedication to the cause did not go unnoticed, and he was honoured for his long-standing service.

Horst Beck, one of the honourees, has been a member of Augsburg 1847 e. V. (TVA) since January 1966 and has been the 1st chairman since November 2014. Under his leadership, TVA has undergone timely structural changes and expanded rehabilitation sports and prevention courses, with over 500 members currently participating.

Helmut Ewald, the 1st chairman of the Kindergarten-Bauverein Inningen since 2006, and Hans Peter Roßkopf, who has been a special representative for the legally competent foundations administered by the city of Augsburg for legal matters with the city of Augsburg since October 2004, were also honoured for their contributions.

Jörg Stuttmann, who maintains a private historical archive on Augsburg and its surroundings since 1987, and Dr. Nico Görlitz, who volunteers at SKM Augsburg since 2012, holding a weekly medical clinic for homeless people and parolees, were also recognised for their work.

Lastly, Anton Freihalter was honoured for his significant promotion of the "New Roncalli House" project in Göggingen, contributing greatly to its construction as a community centre.

The medal, created by Augsburg artist Hans Heinfeldner in 1993, is 4.5 centimeters in diameter, made of silver, and has a glossy background with a matte town hall inscription. The city coat of arms with the walnut is embossed on the back of the medal.

While the 13 persons awarded the city merit order "FÜR AUGSBURG" in 2023 are not listed in the provided search results, it remains to be seen whether Mayor Eva Weber will present the award in a ceremony on February 21, 2024, in the Golden Hall.

These honourees serve as a testament to the spirit of service and dedication that exists within the city of Augsburg, inspiring others to contribute to their community in meaningful ways.
