In the early hours of Saturday, August 23, a dramatic incident unfolded at the Intra market in Verbania, Italy. The incident, which involved a car speeding through stalls and causing a scare among early-morning workers and shoppers, resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old Italian driver.

The driver, who appeared agitated and possibly under the influence of alcohol or other substances, crashed his car into a fruit and vegetable stall. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but an officer sustained a slight injury in the chaos. Remarkably, only one officer was injured in the incident.

Local police of Verbania were swiftly called to the scene, and they were joined by personnel from the 118, the police patrol. It took three officers to contain the driver and secure the situation.

Market vendors, who were understandably shaken by the incident, managed to take the car keys and hold the driver until the police arrived. The assessor Mattia Tacchini and the mayor of Verbania, Giandomenico Albertella, were also present at the scene, providing support and ensuring the incident was handled appropriately.

The Italian driver refused to take any tests and was subsequently arrested by the local police. In addition to charges of driving under the influence, he also faces charges of resisting a public officer. However, the specific official who arrested the driver is not yet known.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of road safety. It also highlights the quick and effective response of the local authorities in Verbania. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
