Redesigned play areas: contemporary, accepting, and varied recreational facilities for kids

In the heart of Gütersloh, four playgrounds have undergone a remarkable transformation, enhancing the city's recreational spaces for children of all ages.

The Kuckucksweg playground, located in the centre of Friedrichsdorf, opened at the end of 2024. New tree and shrub plantings structure the entire play area, with a focus on sustainability. Materials from demolition measures have been repurposed for paving stones and granite, contributing to an eco-friendly makeover. A seven-meter-high "DNA Tower", a zip line, a multi-trampoline, and an inclusive sand play area with wheelchair access are among the highlights.

The Anna-Voß-Straße playground has undergone smaller measures, including the replacement of play equipment and improvements to accessibility. Notable additions include a spring boat in the style of the already renewed pirate area, additional seating areas, and a newly designed fence to prevent dogs from entering.

The playground at Münstermannsweg offers many inclusive elements, with a Tampenschwinger, a large sand play area, a standing seesaw, a spring rocker, a balance beam, and a central play area with speaking tubes and a climbing path. Seating areas and a picnic group are also available.

The newly designed playground at the end of Avenwedde-Bahnhof's Birkhuhnweg offers an appealing U3 facility with a wheelchair-accessible playhouse and other inclusive elements.

These projects, overseen by Katharina Krause, responsible for planning and rebuilding playgrounds, have resulted in diverse, safe, and up-to-date play spaces for children aged three to twelve. The city of Gütersloh continues to prioritise the wellbeing and enjoyment of its youngest residents.

For those interested in learning more about the planning and execution of these projects, it is recommended to contact the city administration or local authorities. Alternatively, local news sources or press releases from the city of Gütersloh may provide additional information.
