Reduced cost for the electric SUV, Toyota bZ4X, now sets at £36,995.

Toyota has announced a significant price reduction for its bZ4X electric SUV, making it eligible for the Electric Car Grant (ECG) in the UK. The discount is valid on Pure, Motion, and Vision models of the bZ4X.

As part of Toyota's 'Electrified Savings' initiative, the Japanese automaker has extended its savings programme across its range of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and full electric models. The savings for the bZ4X stand at £3,750, while other models such as the Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla, C-HR hybrid and plug-in hybrid, RAV4 plug-in hybrid, Prius, and Yaris Cross are eligible for savings of £1,500.

The entry-level bZ4X Pure, which previously cost £42,245, now has its price reduced to under £37,000. With the discount, the starting price of the bZ4X is £36,995. The bZ4X Motion costs £46,025 and the Vision costs £49,910. All versions share the same 71.4kWh battery and 204hp front-wheel drive electric motor.

Interestingly, only the bZ4X EV benefits from the full £3,750 Toyota saving. Nissan, in a similar strategy, ensured most of its Ariya electric SUVs benefit from the Level 2 ECG, even though only one of them costs under £37,000. The Japanese-built Nissan Ariya has been included in the ECG, suggesting that the Japanese-built Toyota bZ4X is likely to qualify as well.

The savings for the Toyota models are valid until 30 September. It is worth noting that the savings do not apply to hybrids and plug-in hybrids except for the bZ4X. The decision that the bZ4X will fall under the electric mobility subsidy program in Germany is made by the federal government, within the context of nationwide electric mobility funding policies, but no single specific government agency or office is explicitly named in the available information as the sole decision-maker.

Toyota's move seems to indicate a desire for the electric family SUV to qualify for the ECG, which offers savings of either £1,500 or £3,750. This price reduction makes the bZ4X more competitive, offering consumers a compelling electric vehicle option at an affordable price.
