The Republic of Yakutia, Russia's largest region by area, is currently battling a series of forest fires that have been causing concern for local authorities and residents. As of the beginning of the day, 107 forest fires, covering a total of 331,080 hectares, and one landscape fire, covering 3,096 hectares, are still active.

In an effort to curb the spread of these fires, Andrei Konoplev, the Minister of Ecology, announced the localization of the fires. The special fire prevention regime, which has been in effect since June 26, is currently in force in several districts, including Aldansky, Amginsky, Vilyuysky, Verkhoyansky, Kobyaysky, Momsky, Megino-Kangalassky, Neryungrinsky, Namsky, Suntarsky, Hangalassky, Churapchinsky, Ust-Alinsky, and Ust-Maysky districts, as well as the city of Yakutsk.

In the past 24 hours, 9 forest fires covering 116 thousand hectares were localized, and 46 forest fires covering 203 thousand hectares were extinguished. However, 11 new forest fires covering 1,190 hectares were discovered, indicating that the battle against the fires is far from over.

One of the largest fires is located between Khandyga and Tepliy Klyuch, with an area of 112 thousand hectares. Local emergency regimes have been declared in Verkhnekolymsky, Verkhneviluysky, Ust-Maysky, Srednekolymsky, Tomponsky, and Olekminsky districts.

Evgeny Korovin, the Minister for Ecology in connection with the efforts against forest fires in the Republic of Yakutia, is leading the charge. An emergency regime is in effect throughout the Republic, and all efforts are focused on containing and extinguishing the fires. Firefighting efforts are ongoing, and the situation is being closely monitored by local authorities.

It is hoped that with the ongoing efforts of the authorities and firefighters, the fires can be brought under control and the damage to the environment and local communities can be minimized. The people of Yakutia are urged to remain vigilant and follow all safety instructions issued by local authorities.
