In September 2020, the North Rhine-Westphalian hospitality industry saw a turnover decrease compared to the same month in the previous year. Turnover decreased by 25.3% in nominal terms and 29.4% in real terms. The hotel industry recorded a real turnover loss of 47.5%, while accommodation saw real turnover falls of 46.2% and nominal turnover decreases of 45.5%.
However, there were some positive signs. Compared to the previous month, there was an increase in turnover of 4.9% in accommodation and 1.1% in catering companies in September 2020. Camping sites had better turnover than last year, with a real increase of 5.2% and a nominal increase of 10.4%.
