Refugees receive initial guidance course from VHS Dormagen
News Article: Volkshochschule Dormagen Offers Orientation Course for Refugees and Immigrants
Starting on August 25, 2022, the Volkshochschule Dormagen will be hosting an orientation course for refugees and immigrants in Dormagen, Germany. This initiative, which is set to conclude around January 22, 2023, is a joint project of the State Association of Adult Education Centres NRW, VHS Dormagen, and the municipal department of Integration and Social Affairs.
The course, based on the "orientation and German learning" concept of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), aims to provide basic information about life in Germany and initial German language education. It is primarily intended for asylum seekers but is also open to other immigrants if spots are available.
Dr. Torsten Spillmann, deputy mayor of Dormagen, has emphasised the importance of the orientation course in providing quick access to language and orientation for refugees and newly arrived immigrants. He believes that this course will significantly contribute to their successful integration into the local community.
Dennis Komainda has been gained as a competent teacher for the course, who is familiar with the local area and will contribute to the course's success.
Each module covers topics such as daily life, work, shopping, health, housing, school, media, mobility, customs and traditions, as well as values and coexistence. The course consists of 300 units of 45 minutes each, divided into six modules. Participants will attend the course four days a week, from Monday to Thursday, from 8:30 to 12:45.
Niklas Christen, from the State Association of Adult Education Centres of NRW e.V., expressed pleasure at gaining VHS Dormagen as a partner for the orientation course in NRW. This partnership contributes to comprehensive coverage of the orientation course in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
The course is open to people who are new to Germany and need help getting started, and those who are not yet allowed to attend an integration course can also participate. The course is designed to strengthen participants and improve coexistence in Dormagen. The course will take place at the Christoph-Rensing-School in Dormagen.
