Regional introduction of driving classes for nine million motorists.

In the upcoming year, changes are afoot in the car insurance landscape of Germany, as the German Insurance Association (GDV) revises the regional classes for millions of insured drivers.

According to Jörg Asmussen, the CEO of the GDV, approximately 56 districts and around 5 million car drivers will see an improvement in their regional classes for motor vehicle liability insurance. This is good news for these drivers, as a better classification means more favourable insurance premiums.

The region with the lowest index value for motor vehicle liability insurance is Ostallgäu, Bavaria, with a value of 204.09. Conversely, Berlin has the worst damage statistics, with a classification of 137.26, indicating damages more than a third higher than the national average.

In a positive development, Bavaria reported the best damage statistics in the field of motor vehicle liability insurance index in Germany in 2022. The Prignitz in Brandenburg has the best statistics nationwide, with damages 30% lower than the national average.

For those with partially comprehensive car insurance, Bamberg, Bavaria, has the lowest classification (56.45). On the other hand, Ostallgäu, Bayern, has the highest classification for motor vehicle liability insurance.

The city of Berlin also has a classification of 137.26 for motor vehicle liability insurance, while Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bayern, has a classification of 143.00.

In a separate development, Wesermarsch in Brake, Niedersachsen, has the lowest classification (76.17) for fully comprehensive car insurance. The region with the lowest index value for fully comprehensive car insurance is also Wesermarsch in Brake, Lower Saxony (76.17).

For around 85% of the insured persons, i.e. around 31.2 million, everything will remain the same in the future. For the remaining 305 districts and around 32.8 million motor vehicle liability insurance policyholders, the regional classes will remain the same in 2022.

The index of the motor vehicle liability insurance refers to the national average with the value 100. If the value is below, the damage statistics of the region are better than the average, if the value is higher, the damage statistics are worse.

It's worth noting that for almost 3.5 million fully or partially comprehensive insured persons, better regional classes will apply in the future due to the current GDV regional statistics. Similarly, for around 2 million comprehensive insured persons, higher regional classes will apply in the future.

In comprehensive insurance policies, the regional classes for many car drivers will change due to the current GDV regional statistics. This means that drivers in these regions may see a change in their insurance premiums, with those in the improved regions benefiting from lower premiums and those in the worsened regions potentially facing higher premiums.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
