In a remarkable turn of events, the Bayreuth Traffic Police have made an unexpected discovery during a routine traffic check near Himmelkron on February 15, 2024. The investigation, led by the traffic police of Bayreuth, part of the Police Presidium Oberfranken, has uncovered a phone scam involving fake police officers in Nuremberg Zerzabelshof.
The investigation began when two suspects, aged 21 and 23, were stopped in a car containing bags filled with a large number of gold coins. The officers seized valuables worth around 70,000 euros and arrested the two men.
The traffic check led to the discovery that these gold coins belonged to a senior citizen from Nuremberg Zerzabelshof. Documents found in the car suggested that the scammers had convinced the elderly woman to hand over her valuables under the pretense of a serious accident involving her grandson.
The police visited the elderly woman's apartment in eastern Nuremberg to investigate further. It was discovered that the scammers had posed as authorities to deceive the senior citizen.
The arrested men must now answer to charges of fraud. Arrest warrants have been issued for the two suspects, and the investigation into the phone scam continues. The Bayreuth Traffic Police Inspection was involved in the arrest and seizure of the valuables.
