In a significant development, the Aria Resort & Casino and Luxor Hotel and Casino, both iconic properties on the Las Vegas Strip, have reached settlements with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) over religious discrimination charges related to their COVID-19 vaccine mandate policies.

The EEOC's investigation found reasonable cause to believe that these casinos, operated by MGM Resorts International, had violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by denying employees religious accommodations to the vaccine mandate.

Both properties entered into separate conciliation agreements with the EEOC without admitting liability. As part of the settlement, Aria and Luxor agreed to provide Title VII training to their human resources staff, with a specific focus on religious accommodations. The EEOC will monitor the casinos’ compliance with these measures.

The exact terms of the agreements, including monetary settlement details, were not publicly disclosed. MGM Resorts International declined to comment on the settlement.

The settlements require MGM-operated Aria and Luxor to enhance their policies and training regarding reasonable religious accommodations in response to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, addressing the EEOC’s findings of discrimination.

This marks a significant step towards ensuring that employees' religious beliefs are respected in the workplace, particularly during the ongoing pandemic. The settlements were announced on Thursday.
