In a significant development, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Internal Security Authority (ISA) have recovered the body of Idan Shtivi, a Portuguese-Israeli citizen who was held hostage for over two years.

Idan Shtivi, a 56-year-old man, was identified as the second hostage body recovered by the IDF. He was killed during the attack on the 'kibbutz' Be'eri, according to the latest reports. The confirmation of his identity was only released on Saturday.

Before his tragic death, Idan Shtivi was held hostage for 693 days in Gaza. He had participated in the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, before being abducted and killed by Hamas terrorists in the area of Tel Gamal, in southern Israel.

Idan Shtivi was a student of sustainability and governance. His heroic actions during the hostage situation were widely reported, as he acted selflessly to help evacuate and save many other people who were also participating in the festival.

The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed its heartfelt tribute to Idan Shtivi. Netanyahu authorized the return of Idan Shtivi's body to Israel after the identification process at the Institute of Forensic Medicine. He also expressed his sincere condolences to the Shtivi family and thanked the Israeli authorities for their determined and daring action.

As of now, 207 hostages - 148 of them alive - have been returned to Israel. However, the responsible party notes that there are 48 hostages still in Hamas' clutches. The Israeli government has demanded their release, with Netanyahu insisting on an agreement for the simultaneous release of all hostages remaining in Gaza by Hamas.

The family of Idan Shtivi visited Portugal several times to fight for his return. The Government of Israel also paid a heartfelt tribute to Idan Shtivi, acknowledging his bravery and the impact he had on the lives of others.

Meanwhile, Hamas warns that the remaining hostages face the "same risks" as its fighters. The death of Idan Shtivi was confirmed on October 7, 2024, a year after the attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel. The recovery of his body marks a somber reminder of the ongoing hostage crisis and the efforts needed to bring all hostages home safely.
