In a heartbreaking incident, a 55-year-old man from Bühl in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, has tragically lost his life in Lake Como, Italy. The man, who was a restaurateur and organizer of after-work parties, was on a rented boat near Dorio, on the eastern shore of Lake Como, with his wife and two children.

The incident occurred when the children, for unknown reasons, fell into the water. The man, without a second thought, jumped in to save them. However, the depth and unpredictable nature of Lake Como, one of Europe's deepest lakes with a depth of over 400 meters, posed a potential danger.

Sadly, the man did not resurface. The search for his body was made difficult by adverse weather conditions. It is suspected that he may have been caught in a current.

This tragic incident bears a striking resemblance to a similar accident that occurred in July 2024, where a 51-year-old German man died while trying to help his son swim in Lake Como. In that incident, the boy survived, but the father was found at a depth of more than 200 meters.

The depth and changing winds, especially in the northern part of Lake Como, can generate strong waves, adding to the danger. The incident has caused a "huge shock" in the city and region, according to Mayor Hubert Schnurr.

Lake Como, approximately 80 kilometers north of Milan, is a popular tourist destination. The body is now available to the authorities for necessary investigations. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
