In a sombre development, the remains of Portuguese-Israeli citizen Idan Shtivi have been identified as one of the captives recovered in the Gaza Strip this week.

Israeli authorities confirmed the unfortunate news, adding that 48 captives still remain in Gaza, with an estimated 20 of them still alive.

The family of Idan Shtivi, including his parents Eli and Dalit, three siblings, partner Stav, wife Shiri, and daughter Noga, had recently visited Portugal to advocate for his return. This visit was also mentioned by Israel's Ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, who shared a message about the recovered captive on social media.

Oren Rozenblat expressed his condolences and reiterated that Israel will not stop until all captives return home. He also highlighted Idan's love for nature, photography, and animals, reflecting the passion that Idan, a sustainability student, had for these causes.

Ilan Weiss, another captive, had his identity confirmed on Friday. The recovery of these individuals comes as a significant step towards resolving the ongoing issue of captives in the Gaza Strip.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Idan Shtivi during this difficult time.
