Renamed Square Celebrates Berlin's Entertainers Honors Harald-Juhnke-Platz
Harald Juhnke Square Opens in Berlin-Charlottenburg
A significant event in the German entertainment industry took place in Berlin-Charlottenburg, as a square was named after one of the country's most celebrated actors, Harald Juhnke. The Harald Juhnke Square, situated at the intersection of Kurfürstendamm, Grolmanstraße, and Uhlandstraße, was officially opened towards the end of September.
Born in Charlottenburg in 1929, Juhnke spent nearly five decades as a dominant figure in the German entertainment industry, primarily in theater and German television. He was known for his appearances in numerous series, films, and theater plays, including the popular shows "Ein verrücktes Paar" and "Musik ist Trumpf."
Juhnke's long-time manager and family representative, Peter Wolf, expressed his happiness and gratitude for the square, stating that Juhnke will be beaming with joy at 'his' square on September 29, 2025. Berlin's governing mayor, Kai Wegner (CDU), echoed these sentiments, stating that the square honors Juhnke's life's work.
District councilor Oliver Schruoffeneger (Greens) added that Harald Juhnke embodies the spirit and humor of Berlin like no other. The square's location near the Ku'damm stages, a location closely linked to Juhnke's artistic work, further emphasizes this sentiment. However, it's important to clarify that Juhnke was not directly associated with the Ku'damm stages.
The proposal to name a central place in Berlin-Charlottenburg "Harald Juhnke Square" was made and strongly advocated by Harald Juhnke's former manager, Peter Wolf. The district assembly of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf voted in favor of the naming in March 2025 following his efforts.
Juhnke, a nationwide celebrated actor, singer, and showmaster, made headlines due to his alcohol consumption. Despite this, his contributions to the entertainment industry remain undeniable. As a voice actor, he lent his voice to numerous Hollywood greats.
Juhnke passed away in April 2005 from dementia. Despite his passing, his legacy lives on through the Harald Juhnke Square, a fitting tribute to one of Germany's greatest entertainers. Both politicians plan to officially open the square at the end of September.
