The European Union (EU) is reportedly finalising a new sanctions package aimed at curbing Russia's oil and gas trade revenue, as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate. This move comes as a response to the Russian regime's aggressive actions against the Ukrainian population.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, speaking at the EU Foreign Ministers' meeting in Copenhagen, highlighted the EU's new sanctions as an instrument to increase pressure on Russia. Wadephul also emphasised the need for increased pressure and aid to Ukraine, calling on partner countries to fulfil their voluntary commitments for military and financial aid.

Not all promised aid has been delivered, according to Wadephul. The partner countries, primarily the G7 countries, EU member states, Germany, and other NATO partners involved in supplying weapons, financial support, and sanctions against Russia, have not delivered sufficient aid, as per Wadephul's statements.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in a statement made in Bonn, Germany, yesterday, reiterated his ongoing efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Merz warned against false hopes regarding the end of the war and emphasised that the war will not end until Russia can no longer afford to wage it economically.

The Russian regime's actions against the Ukrainian population have been a significant obstacle to ending the war. The war in Ukraine has been met with more aggressive actions by the Russian regime, causing concern among global leaders.

Foreign Minister Wadephul also expressed his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not interested in negotiations. Wadephul did not specify which partner countries he was urging to fulfil their commitments to Ukraine.

The focus of both Chancellor Merz's and Foreign Minister Wadephul's efforts remains on bringing an end to the horrible war in Ukraine. Their statements indicate a continued struggle to end the conflict and bring peace to the region.
