In a tragic turn of events, a 55-year-old man from Bühl, Baden-Württemberg, has been found dead in Lake Como, northern Italy, following a daring rescue attempt on Monday.

The man, a family man from the district of Rastatt, was a restaurateur in Bühl, Germany. He was holidaying in the Italian resort when the incident occurred in the afternoon.

According to reports, the man jumped into the water from a rented boat near Dorio, Lake Como, in an attempt to save his two children who were in difficulty due to the current. Unfortunately, he was caught in the current himself and went missing.

Mayor Hubert Schnurr of Bühl expressed his shock over the incident in the middle of the week. The news of the man's death has caused shock in the city of Bühl and the surrounding region.

Italian police and rescue teams were immediately deployed, using boats and helicopters, to search for the missing man. The search continued for several days, with underwater drones used on Wednesday and Thursday.

The body was retrieved on Saturday, over a larger distance, by two divers. The body was discovered by a remotely operated underwater vehicle at a depth of 220 meters.

The exact circumstances leading to the man's death are still under investigation. Bad weather posed significant challenges for the rescue teams during the search. The location of the body's discovery was not specified beyond being in Lake Como, northern Italy.

The man's occupation as a restaurateur was not previously mentioned. His children were brought to safety during the incident.
