Residents in Dusseldorf's Eller district are alarmed due to the partial collapse of a mezzanine.
In an unexpected turn of events, residents of Gumbertstraße, Eller, found themselves in an unexpected situation on Thursday evening (6.2.) when a detached plaster on the ceiling of a ground floor apartment led to the evacuation of the building.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 18:21, prompted a swift response from the local fire department, with nearly 40 forces dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the fire department immediately inspected the units above the affected apartment to ensure the safety of the residents.
The operation, which lasted for approximately two hours, saw Gumbertstraße completely closed off in the area of the incident. The wooden ceiling structure, revealed after the plaster detached, was exposed for subsequent evaluation by the building authority.
Fortunately, no new injuries were reported during the operation, and the incident did not result in any reported damage beyond the affected apartment. The building authority was called to evaluate the exposed ceiling structure, and after about two hours, the last of the deployed forces returned to their fire stations.
Following the evaluation, the building authority gave the all-clear for the residents to return. The resident who initially called the fire department due to the incident was not harmed, and no further incidents were reported.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of prompt action in such situations. The identity of the inspector from the building authority involved in the incident remains undisclosed at this time.
