Restructuring Initiates Between Gütersloh and Rheda-Wiedenbrück from September 15th
In September 2025, significant repairs will be carried out on the B61 between Gütersloh and Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The repairs, which will be conducted by Strabag, are expected to last for four weeks.
The first phase of detours will commence on the 15th of September, with traffic heading towards Gütersloh being detoured from the B64 via the Gütersloher Straße (L568), Kornstraße (K5), the L791 (Varenseller Straße), further via the Brockstraße (K3) and the Stadring Kattenstroth to the intersection Bielefelder Straße / Stadring Kattenstroth (end of detour). Traffic heading towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück will use Herzebrocker/ Gütersloher Straße (L788), Tecklenburger Weg (L927), and the B64 to the junction B64/B61 (Holunderstraße/Bielefelder Straße).
During the second construction phase, traffic heading towards Gütersloh will be directed from the intersection Stadring Kattenstroth / Bielefelder Straße via the Stadring Kattenstroth, the Stadring Sundern, and the Stadring Nordhorn to the intersection with the B61 (Berliner Straße). For traffic heading towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück, the detour remains the same as the first phase.
The first construction section begins at Gütersloher Straße and ends just before the intersection with Stadring Kattenstroth/Kiebitzstraße. The second construction section covers the intersection B61/Stadring Kattenstroth/Kiebitzstraße to Hans-Böckler-Straße. The pedestrian/cycle path will also be closed and repaired during the first construction phase, and a cycle path detour is signposted for both phases.
The RNL OWL felt it was important to inform the public early on due to the importance of the connection, the volume of traffic (around 18,000 cars and around 1,150 trucks per day), and the resulting impacts. Residents and businesses will be able to reach their properties via the signposted detours and have been informed about the measure in advance.
To maintain traffic flow at the intersection of Kiebitzstraße/Wiedenbrücker Straße (B61)/Stadring Kattenstroth during the first construction phase, a construction traffic light will be set up at the intersection of Varenseller Straße (L791)/Kornstraße (K5) for detour traffic.
The press office of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe regional branch initially informed the companies and residents along the route about the measure, naming early August as a potential start of construction. The final contract signing with Strabag was announced in July 2023.
The full closure of the federal road will take place in the early morning of the 15th September. The B61 between Gütersloher Straße (L568) and Hans-Böckler-Straße will close for repairs on that day.
It is advised for all motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and to allow extra travel time during the construction period.
