After a drop in sales when it was initially dropped for 2025, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is making a comeback in the Ram 1500 for 2026. This decision by Stellantis aims to cater to customers who prefer V8 engines and boost sales of the popular pickup truck.

The Hemi-powered Ram 1500 pickups, fresh from the Sterling Heights Assembly, are now on their way to US dealerships. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 will be available in several trims, including Big Horn, Express, Laramie, Limited, Longhorn, Rebel, Tradesman, and Warlock.

The Hurricane inline-six engine, an alternative option, produces 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque, making it more powerful than the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in the Ram 1500. However, the Hemi V8, which produces 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque, is expected to be popular among customers due to its widespread appeal.

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis explained that some truck customers are "cylinder counters" and prefer V8 engines. This preference, coupled with the drop in sales when the Hemi V8 was initially removed, led to its reintroduction.

While the Hurricane inline-six engine costs $1,200 less than the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in most trims of the Ram 1500, customers are advised to shop around if their local dealership wants a markup on a V8-powered model of the Ram 1500. However, a quick search reveals that markups for V8-powered models of the Ram 1500 are not prevalent, with most being listed at or below their Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP).

The Ram 1500 received over 10,000 orders in 24 hours following its unveiling in June, indicating a strong demand for the pickup truck. With the return of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, it is expected that sales will further increase due to its popularity among customers.

The Ram 1500 will continue to be offered with the entry-level 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, providing customers with a range of engine options to choose from. Overall, the return of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is a strategic move by Ram to cater to customer preferences and boost sales of the Ram 1500.
