Revamped 275-unit apartments for affordable living slated for consideration by Planning Commission, located at the ex-Landmark Mall premises.
A significant development is set to be discussed at the Alexandria Planning Commission on Thursday, Oct. 9. The proposal involves a 275-unit workforce housing multifamily apartment building at the WestEnd development.
The proposed development, a seven-story structure, is in line with the plan guidance and development agreement for the redevelopment of Landmark Mall. The landowner, Foulger Pratt and its partner Landmark Holdings LLC, are yet to be mentioned in the earlier bullet points, but the project is being represented by Kenneth Wire and Megan C. Rappolt of Wire Gill LLP.
The development, known as the WestEnd Block D workforce housing multifamily project, is planned to be built in Alexandria. The property for the development is located in Block D, which is next door to the Inova Alexandria Hospital at Landmark property, scheduled to open in 2028.
The applicant is seeking approval for a Development Special Use Permit to construct a workforce housing multifamily residential building with 275 units on West End Block D. All units in the proposed development will be income-restricted, with 80% of the units available for between 80% and 120% area median income.
The plans for the site include an entry garden, a dog park in the rear of the property, and an interior courtyard. However, the application does not provide information about the parking spaces or the number of stories in the proposed development. The development will have 210 parking spaces, a reduction from the 327 required spaces.
The architect for the proposed development is Chicago-based ParkFowler Plus, but details about the developer and architect have not been mentioned in the earlier bullet points. The proposed development is consistent with the plan guidance and development agreement and is part of the workforce housing called for in the Landmark Van Dorn SAP.
The proposed development is in line with the city's efforts to provide affordable housing options for its workforce. The Alexandria Planning Commission will discuss the proposal on Thursday, Oct. 9, and a decision is expected to be made regarding the development's future.
