Chery Tiggo 4: Australia's Best-Selling Small SUV in 2025

The Chery Tiggo 4 has made a significant impact in the Australian automotive market, securing the title of the best-selling small SUV in July 2025 with an impressive 2065 sales. This Chinese-made vehicle offers a practical and affordable driving experience that appeals to a wide range of consumers.

The Tiggo 4 boasts a spacious interior, with the boot measuring 380 litres with the rear seats up and expanding to 1225 litres when they are folded. Long door bins, a big bin underneath the central armrest, a large tray underneath the centre console, and a big glovebox are just a few of the practical features that make the Tiggo 4's cabin a comfortable and functional space.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 4 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a CVT automatic transmission and driving the front wheels only. The engine produces 108kW of power at 5,500rpm and 210Nm of torque between 1,750rpm and 4,000rpm. The claimed combined fuel consumption for the Tiggo 4 is 7.4L/100km with claimed CO2 emissions of 166g/km.

The driving experience of the Tiggo 4 can be described as comfortable, but lacks driver involvement. The soft suspension, lack of steering feel, and less-than-perfect body control are suited for those who travel on poor quality roads. However, the steering is too light and doesn't feel connected to the wheels, and the brake pedal feel is not inspiring.

The Tiggo 4 range was awarded a five-star ANCAP rating in 2024, demonstrating its commitment to safety. The vehicle is equipped with safety features including 7 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a reversing camera.

Chery has also introduced a hybrid version of the Tiggo 4 in Australia, making it the most affordable hybrid SUV in the market. The Tiggo 4 Hybrid uses a 1.5L petrol engine producing 71 kW and 120 Nm, combined with an electric motor generating 150 kW and 310 Nm. Its hybrid powertrain includes a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, with a curb weight just under 1,500 kg.

The Tiggo 4 range offers a variety of trim levels, each with its own set of standard features. The entry-level Urban variant comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, dusk-sensing automatic LED lighting, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The top-of-the-line Ultimate variant adds features such as a sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 6-way electric driver's seat, a wireless phone charger, and a 360-degree camera.

The Tiggo 4's touchscreen infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but does not feature satellite navigation. The rear seat of the Tiggo 4 is more spacious than expected, with map and door pockets, an armrest with two cupholders, a single USB-A port, and an air vent.

With pricing ranging from $23,990 to $34,990 (drive away), the Tiggo 4 offers a competitive price point for its features and performance. The Tiggo 4 Pro runs on 91RON regular unleaded and features a 51-litre fuel tank.

In summary, the Chery Tiggo 4 is a practical and affordable small SUV that offers a comfortable driving experience. Its spacious interior, long list of standard features, and competitive pricing make it an attractive option for consumers in the Australian market. The introduction of the hybrid version also caters to those seeking a more eco-friendly and efficient driving option.
